Some have suggested that with this morning’s newest onslaught of tweets accusing Barack Obama of wire-tapping Trump Tower, President Trump has lost his mind. At face value, Trump’s wild accusations may seem ludicrous and insane, delusional, false, impossible, without evidence, but remember this: when dealing with a con man, never take anything he says at face value.
This newest tantrum is just another Sleight-of-Hand attempt by Donald the Magnificent to shift our attention away from the one thing he wants us to forget: Jeff Sessions’ perjury scandal and the ever-expanding Russian Connection.
When Jeff Sessions recused himself from any future Putin-gate investigations this week, after lying under oath about meeting Russian officials, Donald the Magnificent took to the stage again. Early on Saturday morning, between 6:30 and 7 am, he had an attack of Twitter diarrhea and let fly about half a dozen accusatory tweets scolding former President Obama for wire-tapping Trump Tower. Apparently Trump got this misinformation from two of his favorite loony-tunes news outlets: Right-wing radio talk show host Mark Levin and Breitbart News. (1)
In a brief, but poignant statement, Barrack Obama’s spokesperson, Kevin Lewis, had this to say to CNN:
“A cardinal rule of the Obama administration was that no White House official ever interfered with any independent investigation led by the Department of Justice. As part of that practice, neither President Obama nor any White House official ever ordered surveillance on any US citizen. Any suggestion otherwise is simply false.” (1)
Don’t be fooled, folks, keep you eyes on the prize. This latest flare of crazy is just Trump trying to make his Russia woes disappear. While we shake our heads over his continued abuse of former President Obama, the Russian Connection Intel may be disappearing. Smoke and mirrors! Smoke and mirrors!
Again and again, we fall for the same old trick. Or do we?
This morning, on the TODAY Show, political analyst Elise Jordan, once a senior policy advisor to Ran Paul, said that Trump “clearly is upset” by allegations of Russian ties to his administration and that he is “trying to change the subject by threatening to prosecute Obama.” (2)
Apparently Donald the Magnificent’s act is getting old. Even a conservative like Jordan was not taken in. Don’t be distracted. Don’t be fooled. And keep this in mind:
“The magician and the politician have much in common: they both have to draw our attention away from what they are really doing.” –Ben Okri (3)
Despite acknowledgements by most pundits on Sunday Shows that Trump’s wiretap rant was just a con to pull attention away from the Russian Connection, by Monday morning, most headlines and stories focused on Trump’s Obama/wiretap accusations; effectively killing the Russia/Sessions recusal story. #TrumpWins
