When I first read about Kathy Griffin’s decapitated Trump photo, I too, thought she had made a terrible error in judgement, but not for the usual reasons. I am not particularly horrified about a bloody Trump head or any other bloody head. After all, I watch Netflix and between The Last Kingdon, Marco Polo and Walking Dead, I have seen piles of bloody heads–some thrown, some impaled on pikes, some rolled like a bowling balls across drawbridges.
At this point, I am personally pretty immune to prosthetic heads dripping in stage blood, which is, after all, what Kathy Griffin dangled in her much reviled photo–not a real head, folks–but a rubber replica doused in a mixture of water, food coloring and KY Jelly. No one got hurt save Barron Trump who reportedly caught sight of the bloody head image while watching TV, as reported by TMZ. I’d like to know what TV show Barron Trump was watching in the middle of the day that showed the bloody head. Most media outlets have refused to air the picture. Is Barron Trump a big Kathy Griffin fan? Is he one of Griffin’s followers because I understood that Griffin originally posted the picture as part of her Twitter feed. I first saw the picture and the report of Barron’s reaction on the same show–TMZ.
Frankly, I can’t imagine any normal 11-year old boy being scarred by the image of a bloody rubber head, given the murderous, savage worlds kids live in when they play video games, watch movies or the news. And given Donald Trump’s caustic, relentless attacks on anybody who does not worship him; given his jeuvenile schoolyard bully behavior during the campaign and since he took office, given his attacks on the press, his hatred of women, People of Color, Gays, immigrants, and poor people, I think Trump invites this kind of behavior on both sides of the aisle.
This past weekend two men died in Portland defending two women from extreme verbal abuse by an American Neo-Nazi. Last week, a white woman in a Walmart was caught on tape viciously verbally abusing a Hispanic woman for being in her way. Trump’s rhetoric, his name calling, his hyperbolic rants have created a climate where acts of verbal abuse against non-whites have become acceptable behavior. A rubber head seems insignificant when compared to that.
I read some of the Twitter nonsense about Griffin’s bloody head and was amazed by the outcry over this ridiculous prank. TWO MEN DIED IN PORTLAND!! Where is the outcry from the Right about that?
But never fear, horrified people. Griffin will pay the price for her dastardly image. CNN has fired her over the posting; Squatty Potty has cancelled their ads featuring Griffin; and that colossal herd of posters across social media are calling for her head. (NPI)
By the way, the bloody rubber head image was part of a photo shoot done of Griffin for her Twitter feed. The caption was a take off of this Trump quote regarding Fox News Broadcaster Megyn Kelly, a quote that Fox News deemed “beneath the dignity of a presidential candidate:”
“She gets out and she starts asking me all sorts of ridiculous questions. You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.” (1)
I am upset with Kathy Griffin as well. Mainly for apologizing for an act of free speech but also for creating yet another distraction that makes people feel sorry for Trump. The headlines today are all about the bloody rubber head and poor Barron crying to his mother, instead of the Trump/Russian scandal, Gianforte’s physical assault on a journalist, Trump’s horrid budget proposal, Comey’s upcoming public testimony, Trump’s embarrassing behavior in Europe, Jared Kushner’s back channels and the death of two true American heros in Portland who defended the ideals of our country with their lives.

“I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything… Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything.” –Donald Trump (4)
